With just 20 weeks remaining before the milestone 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, registration is now open for Anniversary in the Schools, a free, on-demand commemorative program offered on Friday, September 10, and Saturday, September 11, 2021.

The program includes a 30-minute film showcasing a diverse slate of speakers sharing their personal 9/11 stories. The Museum’s education department, which produces this free program, will host an interactive live chat to answer student questions in real-time and offer resources that help young people better understand this historically significant event. This year’s theme is two-fold; the program highlights not only the importance of commemorating the 20th anniversary for a generation with no memory of the attacks, but also how the lessons of 9/11 can help us with the challenges we face today.

The program features first responders, survivors, and family members, and includes the voices of several speakers who were themselves young people on 9/11. It is our hope that these speakers will highlight the importance of commemoration and offer messages of hope – demonstrating that we can move forward in the face of tragedy – a message particularly resonant this year. You can view a short trailer for the program below.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Nationwide Run/Walk on Sunday, April 25. Together we achieved our goal of collectively running and walking 20,000 miles to remember those killed nearly 20 years ago and to honor the heroes who put their own lives at risk to save others.
